USB 2.0 is useless, there's not enough voltage. Firewire 400 is my
mainstay. I personally use the Macally PHR-100AF Firewire 400
enclosure. I don't think Maxtor is the best brand out there, I use a
couple of Maxtors and Western Digital hard drives. The word on the
street as far as lowest failure rate is Seagate. Just go Firewire 400,
and if you have to make your own- the enclosure size has to match the
hard drive size. For example: 3.5" enclosure holds 3.5" hard drives.
Most of the enclosures I've seen are for ATA IDE drives which is fine.
I've yet to see a SATA external enclosure. Go Newegg.
