Well spotted. Canon are so weird. Their image is second to none in
my experience - I haven't compared for a long time, but when I did,
Canon were always winners on colour and low light. But it's almost
like Canon don't ask people what inputs & features they'd like. No
LANC? No XLR on the XL1/2? Sony have always understood pro & semi-
pro needs a lot better, which is why you see them being used more.
You'd have thought Canon would have learnt this by now...

Someone told me the new Panasonic cameras were going to be amazing,
but all I've seen is the tapeless one - SD1 - that looks pretty great
- but it shoots on AVHCD, a high-quality compressed format that is
currently uneditable in FCP/Premiere/Vegas, etc. Does anyone know
any more about Panasonic?

Devil is in the details. HV20 has no LANC port so you can't drive it
with a remote zoom controller like a VariZoom and other tripod
mountable zoom controllers.

New Sony HDR-HC7 is the winner for 2007. Arrives next week for under
$1400.
