I have panasonic gs-pv500 and use as webcam. I had same problem at first. Now I use SplitCam and you should try www.splitcamera.com --a freeware program-- to override any software hijacking or presets of your video devices. My best guess is Panasonic has partnered with IM and built their driver to work best with IM.
