Darren, For a reference point, I'm a guilt-free white man. I don't do hyphenated-american (african, northern-european or otherwise) I do think though, that words aren't JUST words. I agree with Gena on this one. The sentence "He's very articulate" can SOMETIMES (the key here is SOMETIMES) have the unstated conclusion of "..for a black guy". You used the word brilliant in your vlog. That seems to work pretty well. How about statesman-like?
Anyhoo, I think the President, like him or not, was simply using it from the construct of being a person who is NOT terribly articulate in the realm of public discourse.
