Hi BikingBill, "The YouTube of Ringtones, Wallpapers & Videos". OK. And monetised?
I don't know anything about anything, but I thought I'd reply because your question got lost in the slew of posts about Vloggercon. You asked for contest ideas for your site. There was a semi-heated discussion about contests here a little while back. Some people here don't like contests. Some do. They don't really work for me, as a lure. The only ones I ever see getting attention involve video sites partnering with bigger MSM studios offering the chance to "Become a Star" after being judged by a panel or by other users - but still, that corrupts the initial intention for submitting to the site. And puts a lot of people off who feel rejected by not winning. Bad for repeat business, I would have thought. What does work for me is the idea of putting something out there that someone watches half the world away, maybe at their desk, maybe on the train. I don't know who they are, except sometimes I'll see a link to a video of mine, or I'll have a brief contact with remote people I'd never have talked to otherwise. Amazingly, I find this much more satisfying than when I was paid to direct TV for millions of people. That's a hard thing to understand in the traditional big audience MSM mindset. I know you're trying to be a marketplace for mobile phone media, but I would guess that if you foreground the social stuff as well as the content, then people will get more satisfaction - and will tell each other about their excitement at selling videos - and refer your site to their Real Life friends. If the only motivators are money and contests, the majority of people might get disappointed and disillusioned pretty quickly when they don't make megabucks or become stars. I saw that almost all of your users have 0 friends at the moment. Also - and this is just me - I would never pay $3 for a video to my phone. But then I watch all these people's videos for free on my iPod every day. I think when selling UGC, you need to think about lowering the prices. Maybe give people a 'free video' reward every so often as well. But what do I know? Good luck with it Rupert On 22 Feb 2007, at 22:06, bikinbill wrote: Hi, I work at a company that enables independent artists to publish videos for mobile phones (http:www.mynumo.com). I'm looking for good ideas for contests for submitted videos (or photos). Any help will be appreciated. Thank you, Bill [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
