Often find the whole charity business pretty obsurd, especially with charities that reach the size and atature, and use the same PR, as corporations.
I imagine there are whole sectors where a degree is still the norm, and well I dont know so much about this stuff really, Im hoping to learn more when I visit old uni friends, one of whom works for a charity and the other in government. Education has a powrful historical link with what responsibilities you are allowed, who is allowed to touch the levers of various important institutions and fabric of society ironing machines. Here in the UK class mobility has ground to a halt again, and higher education will become more entwined with class and wealth again. No matter all the hype, our leaders have the habit of having gone to the best schools, where they are surely indoctrinated with the confidence that they are the future rulers. Doesnt seem so different in the USA from what Ive seen. Yeah sure anybody can become president, right, thats why the last race was between 2 skull & boners.
