Hi Edd666666, Well it seems that you have basic needs so you don't need the high priced toys.
You could to quite well with the entry level Canon, Panasonic or JVC DV tape camcorders. For the set up that you are describing they all will do a bang up job for under $250-$450 depending on model and features. Now if you need that external mic you might want to look at: Panasonic GV500 Panasonic GV300 Canon ZR800 CNet has a list of camcorders with mic imputs. Take you time and take you are heart out of it. It is easy to be seduced by a good looking camcorder. You want a high functional camcorder at a price you can live with for the next two years.
