I've had a HDTV set for a few months but don't have HD service, so the Apple TV is the best looking video source in the house. It's only a matter of time before Apple sells HD content direct, but I've downloaded HD video podcasts and they look great. The only compression artifacts, I think, come from what the creator has to do to not have impossibly huge files and bandwidth bills.
