To answer Steve's question about the vibe at VON: This conference really confirmed for me my belief that presentation mode is over. I didn't see or hear anything terribly revolutionary about revenue models. It was very revealing to hear how the studios are viewing things. When one of the vloggers asked someone about ze/blip's "gimme some candy" approach it was brushed off.
The film business is much more engaged than the music biz was at a similar time about 10 years ago. here are the key three tag: protect, control, monetize, advertising. I did enjoy the mix of vloggers and "suits" in the off-panel time. Nothing replaces getting together in real life.
