I think it is a question of what you see as the purpose of your site
or vlog. Blip was great for me to start off with and I owe
them a lot. But I soon decided that I wanted to explore one subject
in depth through video and text and I switched to a conent management
system, iJoomla because it had the flexibility I wanted in designing
my own site.

I host the site, http://hestakaup.com, on Dreamhost and have no
complaints.

It may be one of the narrowest-niche sites on the internet, about
Icelandic horses, but it allows me the freedom to explore a subject
with minimal software constraints.

In fact, I don't know whether my site is still a "vlog". I have
streaming videos integrated with text and I organize the content with
a menu system rather than a time-line. Thus, there are no archives to
dig through.

I would do some serious thinking about formats. If you have a target
audience that is going to download, then QT formats are fine. But if
you want to allow people to stream (as I do), then I think Flash is
much better at a 512 kbs bitrate with an embedded player. I use On2
Flix Pro for encoding.

You can see samples of what I mean on http://hestakaup.com

Whatever you do, good luck!
