I like the aims of this project a lot. Would like to see more detail, unfortunately dont have the skills you are seeking myself, dont know if those who might, and would be interested, would also like to see more detail about the stuff you will be confident handling yourself, and how you've come up with that figure for budget, more details of the Sweden trip, etc, before committing themselves.
Are ou a student at the university? Perhaps you'l have greater chance of finding someone to help through the university itself, and the collaboration will also work better due to being local? Alternatively, have you thought of trying to make your project part of something bigger, for example a site that encouraged other people to contribute videos of themsleves travelling in a manner similar to what you are going to do yourself? Or is there any form of inter-university network that could be utilised, why milit it to just the uni you are at? There must be some channels of promotion that are geared to the uni setup, and some enthusiastic members of uni's willing to help out? I like all the sustainable-related vlogs and blogs and stuff that have emerged in recent years. I would dearly like to be a small part of some collaboration or community site or network of such things. I do not know how much scope there is for this stuff, how many people have time or interest in approaching that stuff from this angle, how it would work, or any specifics. And apologies if this seems like hijacking your thread, please disregard this chain of thought if it is a million miles away from anything you can envisage for your projects future. As for how to raise more money for your project, does the money youve already gotten from the Uni impose any restrictions on other sources of funding, methods etc? I dont fly but I must admit that just like with driving (I dont and cant), its not just for environmental reasons. I never enjoyed flying and Im a chickenshit about it. Apparently computers are at least as much of a carbon burden as flying is, so thats one of the areas I have left to tackle in my own personal carbon footprint reduction mission. I was talling to my mum about going on a ferry and/or train-based jurney sometime, and I think I saw a programme about slow travel on the BBC a while ago. I find it all rather compelling. One thign Ive noticed during my 5 or so years of inaction, thinking and not doing, about sustainable and energy-related vlogging and the inevitable changes in human behaviour that lay ahead, is how far things have moved, not so much in terms of action yet, but it terms of how much the issues are covered in the UK media. For example things are already reaching near saturation point on certain levels. Its all farily superficial so far, and now we see a fair amount of non-productive greenwashing emerging, as well as some good stuff from grassroots, some companies, some larger entities, some governments. Based on what Ive seen, there is a real need now to take it to the next level and get down into some detail a bit more. There are a lot of humans who are skeptical, want to do nothing, or at least nothing that actually impacts them, but there are definately people who are convinced, and want to do more. They are already doing stuff that has been widely publicised or gradually brought in as an available service (eg recycling), but they dont think things are moving fast enough, and they want practical information, help and encouragement, do do even more, to go way beyond the easy and superficial things, without totally killjoying their own lives. Well vlogging, blogging & other web stuff is already proving itself able to provide for these people, theres some great stuff out there that I tip my hat to. I hope its just the tip of the iceburg (no pun intended), and as I was saying earlier I hope more sites emerge that can focus these issues to a collaborative network of interested people. I have made only a token gesture in this area myself so far, playing with drupal and doing a few shoddy short videos of how much electricity some devices use. If I dont do more than this soon then I'll find it increasingly hard to justify myself being worth the food I eat lol. Anyway good luck with the project and oops for me waffling off all over the place as usual. Cheers Steve Elbows PS. Jay I havent had a chance to look at that Pledge Drive stuff yet but it sounds very interesting. --- In [email protected], "Jay dedman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > I wanted to bring it to the attention of the list, because if I talk > > about it then it makes it real and it is less likely to crash and > > burn.
