Personaly I wouldnt use it because it delivers an experience that is horribly intrusive on the viewer, I think I might even prefer a preroll to having large distracting graphics round the edges of the video.
Newteevee seem to be pondering on the potential misuses of this technology in their story about it, issues we are well used to such as 3rd parties using this stuff to put adverts around your video and make a buck off it without permission. They ponder whether embedding stuff but not rehosting is a legal loophole. My brief research on the subject in the past suggested embedding rather than rehosting its not a good loophole, eg google changed their image search so that full-sized images werent shown in their results. And if simply embedding stuff isnt classed as redistribution then it must be something else, eg public performance, which creative commons & copyright would already cover. Heh I guess the only sure way to eliminate leeching of that sort is if it turns out that most online advertising associated with video isnt actually profitable in the long run.
