All existing and potential writers are encouraged to use this guide to develop story ideas. Writers who submit story ideas tailored for specific sections are, of course, more likely to have their story ideas accepted than those who submit vague ideas that need substantial development. The front of the magazine comprises five groups of articles: Departments (handled by in-house staff and so not described here); Strategies, which comprises useful news, practical advice, and other actionable information; Insider, which consists of anywhere from four to 10 articles plus short-take items called NewsFlash; Stylish Traveler, which looks at fashion and style; and T+L Journal, with some six to 12 articles. *Strategies: The goal of Strategies is to make the reader a better traveler by providing useful news, practical advice, and other actionable information. The theme of the section is "Travel Smarter." The section is often devoted to numerous articles and sidebars on a single topic. Recent examples include "Health & Fitness on the Road," "EuropeMade Easy," "Real Estate" (regarding vacation homes, destination clubs, etc.), and "The T+L Hotel Handbook." NewsFlash: Each NewsFlash page has from one to three items.
