Hey gang,

I just landed a last minute presentation at this conference tomorrow:
http://itvcon.com/

I want to take the opportunity to inform the public about the writer's
strike -- hopefully you can help me make sure I don't leave anything out.

It's only a half hour talk with ten minutes for questions -- so it's more
a question of making sure I don't oversimplify anything to the point of
not being factually correct, and/or don't leave anything obvious out...

And I think a lot of you know, i've been more in outer space/the future
more than videoblogging these last few months, so I'd like to double check
with you guys to make sure I haven't left out anything obvious about the
present situation in videoblogging :)

Here's the talk in an uber nutshell:

the tagline (yeah i'm on a "mice" trip lately -- biotech is warping my
brain -- we're all just mice! mice!!!)

Videoblogging: Of Mice and Monitization

A general overview of some of the new video revenue models and how the
recent writer's strike fits in.

****

So for revenue models:
-show in a box
-rocketboom
-ask a ninja (not sure what current model is, but would like to include if
I can figure it out)
-revver
-youtube revenue share
-spout (four eyed monsters)
- suing YouTube/Google - which had 595 mill of it's 1.65 bill for
infringement settlements (although artists aren't entitled to any of that)
(yeah i'll double check those numbers :)

-- am i leaving any other recent players that deserve mention?

re: writer's strike
- media companies stalling for years, talking about market calming down,
-but everyone is in agreement that there is *some* revenue coming in
-from various deals, and no one can deny that the online vids promote
shows (which lead to higher ad revenues)
-- so there is some financial benefit
-- what the writer's guild is saying is "give us a percentage of that,
whatever it is."

They also don't want to screw up with waiting forever to get an online
percentage like they did with VHS and DVD (of which they still only get
2.5% -- after waiting like ten years to get it).

(Looks like the (now) current head of the writers guild had to fight just
to get a percentage from HIT animated shows a few years back.)

ok thanks!!

lisa
