Writer/Multimedia Producer The George Lucas Educational Foundation seeks a writer/multimedia producer for Edutopia.org. This is a nonbenefited project position, reporting to the Web editor, that we estimate will last approximately three months. Responsibilities: Contribute quick-turnaround news stories, features, interviews, and Web-exclusive stories. Produce multimedia features such as audio slide shows and photography features. Generate story and multimedia package ideas. Coordinate with Edutopia magazine and Edutopia video staff for supplemental online content, and write companion pieces. Research educational materials, such as lesson plans, to be featured on the Web site. Perform administrative tasks such as fact-checking. Assist with additional projects as directed. Experience, Skills, and Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism, education, English, communications, or related field. 2-3 years of journalism writing experience, preferably online. Experience covering education is a plus. Good organizational abilities, ability to produce content on tight deadlines, and a desire to work as part of a team are required. Advanced knowledge of writing principles and English grammar and spelling. Ability to combine that knowledge with a lively, readable writing style that effectively communicates to a wide audience. Attention to detail and accuracy. A wide-ranging interest in and knowledge of K-12 education-reform efforts, specifically those that integrate technology with teaching and learning -- from the latest technological trends to practical, hands-on tips for educators.
