I was faced with this, too. I fooled around with blogging software
and then went for a content management system, Joomla. Joomla allows
me to create menu hierarchy of sections, categories, and individual
articles. It freed me from the chronological archive. People can go
to a menu and pull what they want based on their interest rather than
the chronological order.

I wanted to create something on the order of a coffee-table book of
text and videos on a rather narrow subject. The videos compliment the
text to explore the subject at depth. People go back and forth between
stories based on their personal interest at their own control rather
than arbitrary categories or chronology.

But then I had another problem. Some visitors were so unfamiliar with
menu-driven web sites they needed the prompt of a thumbnail and some
text description. I made a "sticky" post like a center panel on the
front page. It was a whole other brain part. It can be seen

My videos are embedded in text articles. Some of the text stories
have five or six videos, others have only one. Joomla with vPIP Flash
videos is very flexible with this.
