My friend Gia just told me about http://www.filmaka.com
They run monthly short film competitions based on 'a theme' - they have both fiction and documentary strands. They give away around $30,000 in prize money every month and the monthly winners also get a chance to work with one or more of their jury members which includes people like Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog, Paul Schrader etc - so it's also a way to get 'spotted' if that's what you're into. She's working to promote this for them and wants to reach videobloggers, particularly in Europe - as thus far they've tended to focus more on film schools and young film professionals in the US. Last year's overall winner (who's from London) is getting a feature film produced by one of the jury members now. She said that although the competition is open to anyone worldwide - most of the entries come from the States, but most of the winners are British. Obviously, they have good taste ;) This month's comp is sponsored by Cisco - details below: DIGITAL CRIBS COMPETITION - FILMAKA & CISCO OFFER MORE Know your technology?
