Here at The Conversations Network we're working on a new site
scheduled to launch in early December. An alpha-test version is
running (or not, depending on current bugs) at http://spokenword.org.
SpokenWord.org will be the place to find and share recordings of
spoken-word events, etc., in audio, video, slideshow and transcript
formats.
Here's a question for all of you in the video world...
When a user submits an individual audio program or RSS feed, it's
easy. They enter the URL of an MP3 file (or we get it from the RSS
feed <enclosure> element), and we can wrap that in a Flash player and
present it. But what should we do for video submissions? What should
the submitter actually supply? And how is that answer different for
various file/format types?
* For standalone files, we can just accept a URL. What file types need
to be supported?
* How to submit a video from YouTube, blip.tv, etc? What URL should be
supplied and what do we do with it? Or do we need to accept complete
<object> and or <embed> elements?
* Can a user just submit a web-page URL and we can "discover" the
video? What should we look for?
* How do people distribute video in RSS?
Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.
