Ooh, one could go wild with that one--so many movies where a city is important. Any movie both set and shot in Paris or London or Brooklyn almost by definition would be very different if it were set or shot somewhere else.
Lost in Translation for Tokyo? How about Boudu sauve des eaux for Paris? (but then L'Atalante comes to mind, where Paris is definitely a character more than a location--pick one). Sous les toits de Paris, Children of Paradise? Amelie? West Side Story, Do the Right Thing, Taxi Driver for New York? Moonstruck? Maybe New York should be divided into boroughs. My favorite thing about the recent Sherlock Holmes movie was its London (and one could argue that London is a character in the Holmes stories), but maybe it shouldn't count since apparently they "moved" a bridge for plot purposes. Judy VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
