YIKES! My husband just had an appendectomy Sunday so I am only getting to this
now. I can hardly believe it. Mostly because I have a lot of trouble
downloading RealPlayer on both office and work computers so I don't have the
latest version.

But for a decade we have been using RealMedia precisely because it was hard to
download. It fit Larry's description, "hackable if a student has the skills,
motivation and the right shareware." Most of what we are putting online is not
terribly valuable (audio labs for students) but I hadn't realized that they had
become less secure.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
