I've been meaning to put this question out to the list for some time, but now I
have a particular need for the information.

Assuming you purchase videos through Amazon, when a title is * not * available
from Amazon, but * is * available from several sell-through vendors:

How do you select the vendor?
How do you know that the copy you are ordering is a legitimate copy and not a
boot leg?
Are there particular vendors you have had experience with that you would
recommend?

Now, specifically, I am looking to acquire a DVD of "The Eddie Cantor Story"
(1953)

We have a VHS copy, released by Warner Home Video in 1996. Amazon lists new
copies on DVD available from these vendors:
Happymovies, schindler's Disc, Vintage_dvd_vhs, Videophile1939, Seravieve, and
Joshuab01

Several indicate "Brand new, factory sealed, direct from manufacturer"

Reactions?

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
