Creative Arts Television DVDs state clearly at the start that they may be
used in classrooms. We have always assumed that a need for wider use would
generate a query to us about additional costs. And with hundreds of arts
titles we do get these requests. When they come in we are very liberal and
reasonable.

So it is irksome to think that there is support for a unilateral decision
on the part of a video librarian (or more likely her boss somewhere back in
an administrative office) that because times are tougher it is OK to ignore
established principles of fairness.

I've never met a video librarian I didn't like.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
