Subject: [SLAVLIBS] Chemodan Films

Hi all,

I wanted to share this amazing movie production involving Professor Thomas
Lahusen from the University of Toronto's Department of History.

Chemodan Films is a partnership, created in October 2005 by Thomas Lahusen
(director), Tracy McDonald, and Alexander Gershtein in Toronto, Canada. The
movies produced are absolutely marvelous and have a great comic streak to them
that is very eastern European (especially the movie about foreign cinema,
called "The Province of Lost Film").

Here is a brief description from the website:

"One of the goals of our partnership is to produce documentary films on Russia,
other territories of the former Soviet Union, and other parts of the world,
which can equip scholars and the larger public with contents that help them to
explore the cultural, social, and political complexities of past and present.
Chemodan Films privileges topics reflecting on the "deep country," including
geographical and social areas that are not part of the mainstream. Besides
producing documentaries, Chemodan Films is also establishing an archival
depository of original film material, both contemporary and historical."

I hope you all have a chance to enjoy these wonderful productions!

Best,

Katya

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
