Hi, everyone,

We are going to be reading Seabiscuit for our Fox Valley Reads this
year. For some of the programs, we're showing the movie, plus the Marx
Brothers' A Day at the Races. We would also like to show some newsreels
from the time - just like going to the movies in the good old days. How
are newsreel rights covered? I know that a lot of the titles issued
from the 1930s and 1940s have newsreels on them, but can they be shown
separately from the movie? Or what about a title of newsreels in
general? This is just a public showing - no educational face to face.
I'm not sure where to go on getting permissions on this. Thanks!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
