Jessica raises a really good point about the Warner Archive. Because of the declining DVD market Warner is shifting *most* of their older film releases to the Warner Archive nowadays. Only a select number of "classic" titles will be released on regular DVD in the future. Most of these transfers look quite good, and some are beautifully remastered. The catch is that these are DVD-Rs created on demand. They're professionally manufactured and should work fine on most players, but from a library perspective there are still the obvious concerns about the longevity of the DVD-R format.
The cool thing about the Warner Archive is that they're also releasing many titles which never would have merited a stand-alone DVD release.
