We discourage it - cases are labeled "Do not place in bookdrop." But they aren't penalized when it happens. We're not too worried about potential damage, but neither have we felt that it's worth the trouble of removing the labels.
Neither external bookdrop is conveniently located, so they only get used when library isn't open. There's always a Circ student at the library entrance that can accept video returns so we don't have a video drop in the media area. VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
