Dear Gary and all, My last email of the day -- I promise. The AMIA Film Journal that just came out this month has an incredible interview of copyright lawyer Eric Schaeffer. It's done by David Pierce who is also a copyright expert.
*Copyright, Preservation, and Archives: An Interview with Eric Schwartz* The Moving Image - Volume 9, Number 2, Fall 2010, pp. 105-148 It really, really defines all the issues, the history and what exactly is fair use. (I may be totally misquoting but I think he states that Fair Use is actually not a right, but a definition for jurors to decide what is permissible. A small but important point of interest). Best yet, it's available on Project Muse<http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/the_moving_image/toc/mov.9.2.html> .
