Except I believe Becky is talking about the new French animated feature by
Chomet that was nominated for an Oscar this year.

My two bits is that it's $26.99 for the combo set at Amazon and probably
cheaper elsewhere --- the studios are doing it to give customers extra
incentive to buy and it saves the costs of multiple releases (until the
extra deluxe versions that come out in time for the holidays). It's a sign
of the times and frankly, I think the minor studios (like us) we'll be
moving towards that day soon too. And since it's animation, which is hell on
compression for DVDs, there might be some of your customers that will really
enjoy the blu-ray.

I'll tell a quick story. I was testing out a new BluRay I made of one of our
restorations off a computer file for one of our customers. Amy had already
seen the film dozens of times in 35mm and DVD but as she was passing by, she
watched for a second and exclaimed loudly, "Holy &#*^!" because it looked so
much better than the DVD. That's when she allowed me to look into bringing
out our films on bluray.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
