Hello, all, We will be moving our media collection into new space in San Francisco State University's new library (let's hear it for bond issues) by the end of the year. This will include moving close to 2,000 16mm films and laserdiscs. Some of these are still in active use, though most, honestly, are not.
If anyone out there still has 16mm film or laserdiscs in their collection, could you let me know what you use for shelving? We would prefer vertical storage for the laserdiscs (in the past we used hanging bags) and vertical storage for the small number of frequently used films. I understand horizontal storage is preferred for long term film storage. For now we want to know what everybody else is doing. Photos would be helpful, if you can. This is not a money-is-no-object situation, but we do want to keep these instructional materials in good condition for as long as possible. Please feel free to reply off list, if you prefer. Thanks, Brigid Duffy Media Acquisitions Academic Technology San Francisco State University San Francisco, CA 94132-4200 E-mail: [email protected] Phone: (415) 338-1493 VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
