Yes, we have one called exactly that. They can be viewed by anyone in the library and are only checked out to faculty and staff. They include extremely popular (i.e., interdisciplinary titles) and very expensive ones. They are on open shelving near our reference desk and not interfiled with the regular video collection. Does anyone have a "permanent reserves" video collection, and if so what's in it and how do you keep it updated? Does it include, for example, videos that are really expensive or videos that are rare or out of print? And if the latter, how to you keep up with what's rare and and out of print? Cheers, Matt ________________________________________ Matt Ball Media and Collections Librarian University of Virginia Charlottesville, VA 22904 [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> | 434-924-3812

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
