Matt, We just subscribed to a package of several Alexander Street Press collections, including Filmakers Library (Academic Video Online). Several of our faculty were impressed with the titles that they saw in the collection while we were trialing the package. We have had access to their American History, Theater, & Counseling titles over the past two years. I can't say they've gotten a lot of use just yet, but I think it is something that may still take some time and promotion. Your campus bandwidth may be the biggest issue when trying to stream these in a classroom setting. We have had issues with considerable buffering taking place when faculty did try to use it in a classroom setting. We've doubled our bandwidth in the past few months and just hope that this helps. I have, also, promoted it to our faculty as an alternative to placing a video on Course Reserve for viewing outside of class. I do like the transcription text that goes along with the video for those of us who miss an important name, place or information mentioned in the video. Hopefully, more faculty will take some time reviewing the available titles over time, our network bandwidth will be sufficient, and our usage will go up.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
