I have heard him claim that the only little problem is he does not own the
film and least he should not own the distribution rights in the US at the
moment since he sold them.He also said people should download it illegally
which I am guessing did not endear him to his distributor Lion's Gate films.
I would check with Swank.
I would add that I consider Mr. Moore a piece of work in on the one hand
telling folks his films should be free and on the other taking a lot of
money from distributors ( he is currently suing over payment for FARANHEIT
(9/11) AND treating his own workers terribly.

Small indie directors often own rights to their films, but for bigger
releases be leery of claims and ask for some kind of proof & indemnity.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
