The first time I saw Eraserhead, I stayed up WAY too late watching it on home video. The next morning, when I thought back about the movie, I thought I must have fallen asleep and dreamt parts of it, it was so strange. And creepy. And unsettling.
The second time I saw it, I realized I hadn't dreamt any of it, which made it all the more disturbing... I can't honestly call it a favorite--too nightmarish for me to want to revisit it. Ever. My older (devilish) brother sent me off to see a double bill of ERASER HEAD and the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD at the UC Berkeley Theater on Shattuck Avenue when I was about 13. I think I was more scared by ERASERHEAD. Elizabeth VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
