Hi, Because we are a public library system with 20 different locations, Blu-Ray combo packs are handled two different ways. For the branch libraries, we separate them, catalog each under the appropriate bib record and shelve them separately. Basically, the decision was made to separate because customers don't always have a Blu-ray player and because of the replacement cost issues. Some of the smaller "member" libraries (e.g., Riverside Library) have chosen to keep the combo packs as is. Each member library purchases their material and controls their own collection.
At our Headquarters, Blu-rays are shelved away from the main DVD collection and each is housed in a security box. Right now, only four of our branch libraries have small Blu-ray collections and each is doing something different for security. One branch pulls all the discs and holds behind the circ desk. Another uses the security cases and a two leave the Blu-rays in the boxes like DVDs. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
