Hello, everyone.

A question has been raised on my campus as to whether the Night of the Living
Dead (1968) is truly able to be screened as a public domain movie. I remember
a past discussion indicating whether or not the music in a public domain film
may be still be copyrighted, which would prevent one from playing the film
freely. I have found a statement online suggesting that the music from Night
of the Living Dead was still under copyright in 2010. Can anyone confirm the
status of this film and music? Can the entire work be played freely or can it
only be viewed as a silent film?

Sorry for my long absence. I'm hoping to be active, again.

Thanks,
Sandra

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
