Hello Deb,

eBay may have a usable VHS copy:

According to the OCLC record for this item (#18563915), the tape should be in
French with English subtitles.

Subject: [Videolib] Looking for The Red and the Black - Le Rouge and le Noir

1954 version, with English subtitles.

I suspect that it is not available. Video Yesteryear has/had a copy, but VY is
questionable.

There is one copy on Amazon... but unclear if it is legal or not, or if it has
subtitles or closed captioning in English.

If anyone will know the status of this film I suspect it is Jessica.

Off to the Charleston conference.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
