The University Libraries of Loyola University Chicago invites
applications from enthusiastic and self-motivated librarians to join the
Access Services Department of the University Libraries. This position
reports to the Head of Access Services and is based at Loyola's Lake
Shore Campus in Rogers Park, with occasional work at Loyola's Water
Tower Campus in downtown Chicago. Librarians at Loyola University
Chicago have non-tenured faculty status, but participate in a system of
rank and promotion for the library faculty. 
The Media Services Librarian plans, organizes and supervises the
operations of all audiovisual services for the University Libraries.
Responsibilities include collection development for both physical and
online materials, acquisition and maintenance of materials, and
oversight for cataloging of audiovisual materials. The Media Services
Librarian schedules materials for faculty/classroom use, responds to
queries and resolves problems, and provides direct service to patrons.
This position also coordinates activities with other unit heads, and
works closely with staff from acquisitions and cataloging. 
Responsibilities: 
·         Supervises all daily activities of the audiovisual services
unit 
·         Serves as lead administrator of the Voyager media scheduling
system 
·         Responsible for all audiovisual material collection
development activities, with an annual budget of $50,000 
·         Researches and evaluates sources for online media content 
·         Negotiates licenses for online media and public performances

·         Communicates with faculty and other patrons regarding
audiovisual policies, procedures, and services 
·         Educates users about audiovisual materials on matters related
to copyright, format, and new media technologies 
·         Oversees processing of purchase orders and associated record
keeping 
·         Oversees cataloging of audio visual materials through OCLC 
·         Prepares reports and statistical data 
·         Works with colleagues in other departments, such as
Acquisitions, Cataloging, Reference, and Systems, on matters related 
·         Additionally responsible for collection development,
specialized reference services, instruction, and outreach to faculty and
students in assigned subject area(s).   
Minimum Education or Experience
·         MLS or MIS from ALA-accredited program 
·         Academic background in film studies or related field 
·         Expertise in Microsoft Access 
·         2-3 years of experience with patron or customer service 
·         Strong written and verbal communication skills 
·         Excellent organizational and time management skills   
Preferred: 
·         1-2 years of academic library experience 
·         Experience with the Voyager ILS 
·         Knowledge of film distribution channels and/or experience
working with audiovisual materials 
·         Knowledge of electronic resources, license and copyright
issues 
·         Knowledge of and interest in emerging internet technologies
as they apply to libraries

relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition,bibliographic control, 
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and 
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective 
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication 
between libraries,educational institutions, and video producers and
