From today's Cynopsis:

Netflix will be introducing Facebook sharing features in 2013, according
to a report last week from Talking Points Memo. This will be the result
of an amendment to the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), which takes
away restrictions that have prohibited companies since 1988 from
disclosing "personally identifiable information" such as video rental
history. The new bill, which passed both the House and Senate shortly
before the holiday break, is awaiting President Obama's signature. The
amendment will require video service companies like Netflix and Hulu to
obtain consent before sharing a user's viewing history on social
networks like Facebook. It also allows consumers to withdraw consent
either fully or on a "case-by-case" basis.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
