I absolutely agree with Jessica about the wonderful work George
Feltenstein is doing at
Warner Brothers. Since November here at USC we have been acquiring
virtually all new DVDs
being issued by Warners Archives (as well as those by Fox Century
Archives and Olive.)
Invariably in wide assortment such as this, there is the occasional
"stinker" but overall
this is an extraordinarily rich collection of American films that are
finally making to DVD.
Hallelujah!
Cheers!
Anthony

And a brief update. The problem with SISTER KENNY is not rights, it is
material. The wonderful George Feltenstein at WB who has done more to
put films out on DVD than ANYONE in the world, reports that the master
is very poor and for now the cost of getting and mastering new
material is prohibitive.

Unfortunately there is no way to know when any older film will
come out until it is announced. TALES OF MANHATTAN is FOX and they
did have it out on VHS so I would say eventually it will be out
possibly in the made on demand type system many studios are using
for older titles. I think SISTER KENNY may have rights issues.
Normally as an RKO release it would be owned by Warner Bros who
frankly would have put it out by now. I asked a friend there for
the story so I will report back but I suspect it has complicated
rights. Things are getting MUCH, MUCH better on studio library
titles and both of these I would rate as significant titles but in
general keep in mind studios have libraries of tens of thousands
of films and not all of them will make it to DVD.
Good Luck
