Dear List

We are interested in safeguarding our DVD collection more effectively. We have
noticed that some of our DVD’s have been dubiously returned by patrons as the
authenticated copy that we loaned them. In these few instances we were
unfortunately unable to definitively prove to the contrary.

It has been suggested that we purchase some type of label to be placed on the
DVD directly so that it indicates ownership by Queens College. I think this
would be an excellent measure as long as it does not compromise the integrity
of the DVD in anyway. Since I am unaware of the most appropriate type of labels
we should acquire, I was wondering if this list could help us out.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
