Hi, I received this request from a prof and thought it would be fun for the list. I thought of these documentaries, but I'm sure she is also interested in feature films:
Capturing the Friedmans 51 Birch Street Tarnation Thanks, Jeff UMich ...... I'm creating a new course on writing memoir, and I want to include a couple of films. One that I haven't seen yet but that I think will fit well is Stories We Tell, a documentary by Sarah Polley about her deceased mother that incorporates the memories of a range of family and friends and in the process reveals a great deal about those being interviewed. Another possibility is Persepolis, based on the graphic novel/memoir by Marjane Satrapi. Do you have other films you could suggest that would fit this genre? Films that raise interesting questions about storytelling, memory, truth, conflicting versions of events, etc. would be particularly interesting. VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition,bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries,educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
