We realized most of our patrons couldn't watch a season of shows as quickly as
a single movie, and struggled to come up with a fair circulation period. We
finally decided that many patrons "binge watch" when they check out a TV
series, and we allow feature films and TV shows to check out for 14 days. We
usually order a few copies of both new TV shows and new movies that we
circulate for seven days until demand dwindles. Those check out for 7 days, we
call them "hot picks," and they don't go out for holds and cannot be renewed.
The only exception to all of this is our nonfiction DVDs, which circulate for
21 days. Even the "hot pick" nonfiction circulate for 21 days; and they don't
go out for holds, either.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
