With today's news that North American Video is closing its last two stores (see link below), I have fond recollections of sharing VSDA panel presentations & ECVS roundtable discussions with founding owner Gary Messenger back in the '80s... a true pioneer in the wonderful world of brick & mortar video retailing who helped inspire Vide-O-Go's foray in the early development of the special interest and "how-to" product category. A quarter century later, competitive forces and disruptive technologies along with shifting lifestyle preferences all offer retailing challenges. So kudos to our industry colleague and recent North American store owner, Chip Williams, for his work ethic and risk tolerance that kept him in the game! Here's the link for newspaper story: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article19400904.html Wishing us all continued success... Dean W. Stevens Vide-O-Go / That's Infotainment! Serving library and school media acquisitions since 1989.
VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
