The University of North Texas Libraries Special Libraries Division is looking 
for an enthusiastic, collaborative, and innovative librarian to serve as the 
Head of the Media Library. The Media Library is a vibrant, active, hub of 
activity offering access to audiovisual and gaming collections in a wide range 
of formats, hosting film and gaming events, and providing reference and 
research assistance to faculty, staff, and students. The ideal candidate is a 
passionate advocate for the use of media in teaching and learning and is 
committed to outreach and actively promoting services and collections.

The Head of the Media Library provides creative leadership, supervision, and 
oversight for Media Library activities and oversees all operations and public 
services including reference, circulation, reserves, collection development, 
digital media, film preservation, and media cataloging. The Head is actively 
engaged with coordinating film and gaming programming for students, faculty, 
staff, and the UNT community and manages digital media collections and the 
Video on Demand system.

The Head of the Media Library works closely with other departments and 
divisions in the library. This position serves as liaison to the Media Arts 
Department (radio, television, and film) and works closely with university 
departments and student services areas in outreach activities. The Head will 
also collaborate with the Digital Libraries Division to plan digital projects 
and will work closely with individuals in the Collection Management and Public 
Services Divisions to coordinate acquisitions and services. This position also 
collaborates with Library Facilities and Systems to coordinate programming and 
outreach for the libraries' makerspace, The Factory.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Special Libraries Division, the Head of 
the Media Library participates in divisional library planning and policy 
formulation. This position supervises three classified staff positions, two 
librarians, and indirectly supervises 10-15 student assistants. This position 
is also responsible for professional development through scholarly research and 
publication, presentations, participation in national professional 
associations, and service.

Minimum Qualifications:
*ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Information or Library Science, or its 
equivalent
*1 year of professional library experience working with a wide variety of 
audiovisual mediums and collections including film, tape, and digital formats
*2 years of supervisory experience, academic setting preferred
* Knowledge of current issues and trends regarding streaming media collections 
and licensing
*Knowledge of current issues and principles regarding fair use, copyright, and 
accessibility
*Experience working with film digitization and digital projects
*Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
*Ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with library 
departments and divisions
*Commitment to diversity in collection development, access, outreach and other 
department activities
*Evidence of publishing and/or participation in professional organizations 
appropriate to the level of appointment

Preferred Qualifications:
*Familiarity with makerspaces in a library environment
*Experience with video and board game collections
*Knowledge of film and video preservation standards
*Familiarity with cataloging and metadata standards and tools
*Experience in developing grant proposals

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues 
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition,bibliographic control, 
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and 
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective 
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication 
between libraries,educational institutions, and video producers and 
distributors.
