Saturday, 6/25, 10:30-11:30am, Orange County Convention Center, Room W206A Section 108 VHS Preservation: A Collaborative Database for Due Diligence on VHS Videotapes in Academic Libraries (co-sponsored with PARS/ALCTS). Section 108 of U.S. Copyright law permits preservation of VHS videotapes but requires that a reasonable effort be made to discover the distribution status of each title. If that sounds daunting, don’t despair. This presentation will introduce you to a new database designed to help. It is possible to preserve the VHS in your collection while staying on the right side of copyright law. Come learn how. Saturday, 6/25, 3-4pm, Orange County Convention Center, Room W101B Academic Library Streaming Video Revisited: Key Findings from the Follow-up Survey. The latest research available from this ongoing study reveals remarkable changes that will help inform academic librarians and administrators in planning and developing streaming video collections and services in a rapidly changing environment. This talk will tell you everything you want (and need) to know about recent trends in library streaming video collections. The demand for distance learning is growing exponentially, which means that the need for engaging online library instruction has never been greater. Do you want to publish but feel as if you could use some inspiration and advice? This panel of accomplished authors and editors will be offering their tips for both experienced and novice writers. Now Showing @ ALA – Films Back by popular demand, the "Now Showing @ ALA Film Program" offers a variety of films and documentaries throughout the day from Saturday through Monday. Kumu Hina is a powerful feature documentary about the struggle to maintain Pacific Islander culture and values within the Westernized society of modern day Hawaiʻi. It is told through the lens of an extraordinary Native Hawaiian who is both a proud and confident māhū, or transgender woman, and an honored and respected kumu, or teacher, cultural practitioner, and community leader. VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition,bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries,educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
