Eric Johnson's team at VCU's workshop help us celebrate in may ways, but the most fun uses green screen set-up. We then post images on the library's Flickr.
Halloween, door cutting ribbon, bike races through the stacks, etc. I am sure you can come up with some good props and background images for a birthday. We have also been bringing in the character our the author for whom the library was named. Rick Provine had some great outreach events on a similar vein at DePauw.
