Our policy is identical to Barb’s: lid on drinks; clean up your own d--- mess
if you make one; no food or drink in the archives.
We even host meetings in the library where lunch is served (and share leftovers
on the circulation desk).
We’ve had a coffee shop on site for about 7 years, and I’ve not noticed any
kind of increase in messes – possibly in part because there’s a sizable lounge
attached where many people stay with their drinks/snacks.

Subject: Re: [Videolib] Food policy query

Drinks need to have lids.
Don’t be messy with food.
(Archives/special collections room: no food or drink)

Have had this policy for around 10 years.
While most staff were glad to not be the food police, some staff members
reacted to the policy change as if they believed patrons wear white gloves at
home while reading library books.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
