Also the over-and-under-the-table investments Microsoft et al have made over
the years have to be taken into account in any plan to go with the FLO
(Free/Libre/Open-source) systems in VN.

Kev,

Good to hear from you. This is very good news and also very bad news.  It
just seems like most folks in VN misunderstood OSS.

1. We do not have to pay for OSS
2. There are no copyrights when using OSS

If everyone believes 1. is true then all the OSS developers will not
survive.

As for 2., there is definitely copyright in OSS. Since the GPL allows one
to use any programs without paying for it, it doesn't mean the program is
not copyrighted.
