An update: according to google http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=78892 there is no need to save sent mail to teh sent mail imap folder when using the gmail smtp server to send messages. However, I sometimes need to use a different smtp server due to a firewall issue. so trying IMAP-FCC: [Gmail]/Sent Mail doesn't work for me, unfortunately, not sure what I am doing wrong.
