It does not seem to be working for me, at least it is not crashing now. I
navigated to a spot that I did not have map tiles yet. I then opened the View
Background Jobs window and then tried to download along track. OSM worked as
before and I could see the download progress in the View Background Jobs
window.
When trying to download terraserver topo or aerial maps tile nothing happened.
I
did recompile after git pull.

I can download OSM maps without a problem, however when I try to download
terraserver topo maps viking crashed. I have received two different errors, see
attached file with backtraces.

It seems you ran "out of memory". Can you give more details? Length of the
track? Zoom level requested?
